Questions parents ask家長常見問題
What is the difference between a creche and a nursery?
Child care centres look after children from birth to under 3. Creches take babies under 2; nurseries take children aged 2 to 3. Every centre must be registered with SWD under the Child Care Services Ordinance.
How much does a child care centre cost per month?
Across 39 centres with a published approved fee, the median full-day creche fee is HK$5,558 a month (HK$2,513 to HK$15,000). The median full-day nursery fee is HK$4,160 (354 centres). Figures are from the SWD and EDB lists, checked 17 Oct 2026. Meals and other items may cost extra.
How much is occasional child care, and how do I book?
Subvented occasional care costs $64 for a full day, $32 for a half day and $16 for two hours, meals extra. Hours are 8am–6pm Monday to Friday and 8am–1pm Saturday. Ask the centre directly about places and book with them.
Is there help with fees?
Low-income families with a child in full-day care can apply to the Student Finance Office under the Kindergarten and Child Care Centre Fee Remission Scheme. Parents using full-day aided child care can also apply through the centre for the Child Care Centre Parent Subsidy, which has no means test.
How do I apply for a child care centre?
There is no central allocation: enquire and apply directly at the centres you prefer. Browse by district here; every centre page has its phone number, address and map.
